Introducing - Rose

Once in a while, I plan to offer up an intro for one of our many animals here on the farm.  Leading the charge is Rose.  "Rose Colored" as she is known by The Jockey Club and US Eventing Association...

Rose, as we call her is a four year old, off the track thoroughbred (OTTB) mare.  She stands a stout 16 hands and has the barn nickname "Dragon".  She can be sweet as sweet one minute and then the countenance of a dragon the next.  Her favorite things are wither scratches and food...any kind of food, including yours.

Rose retired sound from racing because she just flat lacked interest.  Fast is just not her nature - unless it is a race to the food bucket.  She does, however, make a gamey little event horse.  Though she is young, she has talent and drive to spare.

Currently Rose is qualified for the Young Event Horse Championships to be held at Fair Hill Horse Trials Oct. 2019 in Elkton, MD.  Are we going?  You bet!  I've always wanted to compete at Fair Hill.  On a young horse?  Never crossed my mind, but bet your britches, I'm not passing up the opportunity to show off this talented youngster.
Not only is Rose a fancy, pretty little thing to watch on the flat, she is a scopey, fearless jumper, plus a fast learner.  In my training program I let the horses dictate the pace.  In Rose's case, we have to take things slower for her mind so her body can catch up and mature to what her mind wants and can do.  It's an interesting dilemma and keeps me on my creative toes so she stays entertained and successful in her work.

Keep an eye on this one folks!  She has an exceedingly bright future ahead and I'm privileged to have a role in it.
